Happy (Belated) Birthday, Little Bear!

IMG_1837

Our little guy turned one last month – one! A whole year! I’m still reeling in disbelief, I think…

While I continue to gather my thoughts on how this first year has gone, I wanted to share a few pics and details of his party! It was such a pleasure and a privilege to be able to share this occasion with so many of our friends and family, and to have lovely weather was the icing on the cake πŸ™‚

Inspired by Pinterest and by Little Bear’s own enthusiasm for Eric Carle, we had a Very Hungry Caterpillar theme.

We ate (almost) all the food from the book, as well as many extras shaped like caterpillars or butterflies. The bonus of a fruit-heavy spread was that it was very baby-friendly, and gluten-free too!

My sister took care of the cupcakes, iced with natural food colouring (from Naturally Cakes, a small NZ company), and I made a gluten-free cake for the head (this delicious recipe).

I had heaps of fun making decorations and activities for the kids, but in the end they really just wanted to play in the sun and pop a few bubbles πŸ™‚

I made a felt board, which was set up inside, so ended up totally neglected on the day! Luckily, it's been since appreciated at home :)

We held the party at our local Playcentre, which Little Bear and I attend, and the outdoor area is perfect for parties.

It was such a joy to put this party together, and I’m looking forward to many more parties to come!
